Jodie Michael is our sort-after drum mentor here at Sisters Of Sound. With loads of experience and passion for education, a performance resume that will leave your jaw on the floor, as well as a heart of gold, Jodie is one mentor we feel honoured to have with us.

Meet Jodie Michael!

Starting her drum journey at the beloved and valued Wollongong hub of music - The Wollongong Conservatorium Of Music, Jodie has since performed with Australian and US artists such as James Muller, James Morrison, Dale Barlow, Bobby Gebert, Katie Noonan, Carl Dewhurst, Craig Scott, Sandy Evans, Matt McMahon, Danilo Perez (PAN/USA), Andre Hayward (USA), Ingrid Jenson (USA) Mimi Jones (USA), Camille Thurman (USA), Will Vinson (USA) and more.



Jodie has obtained a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Perf.) from the Sydney Conservatorium Of Music. 
In 2011, she traveled to New York, to study with world-class international drummers, including Michael Carvin. Jodie was the recipient of the 2013 Jann Rutherford Memorial Award. Jodie continues to further her career in Australia and overseas, predominantly in New York, where she lived in 2013, 2014 and 2017, accumulating performance experience and study with Carvin, as well as, Greg Hutchinson, Billy Hart and Bernard Purdie.


In Fall 2018, Jodie was accepted into Berklee College of Music’s Global Jazz Masters program, mentored by Danilo Pérez and Marco Pignataro. She has since performed at the Panama Jazz Festival with BGJI Ensemble (2019), toured New Orleans (2017), as well as performed with the inaugural institutional collaborative ensemble G.A.I.A., debuting in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2019). Jodie is now based between New York, Sydney and Wollongong.


Drummer Jodie Michael performs Paul Motian's "Drum Music" live at Berklee College of Music with Alex Johnson on tenor saxophone and Jacob Jezioro on bass. The musicians graduated from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute's master's degree program in 2019.

Jodie is currently based between Wollongong, Sydney and New York City, and we feel so lucky to have her part of this community, in helping to inspire and encourage women in the music industry.
